After I closed submissions to the $3k Challenge last year, I wrote a post introducing the challengers. For some time, that was one of my better trafficked posts, so I thought I would do the same this year.
For the 2013 $3k Challenge, I was able to get some sponsors, and the prize for winning is $200. That’s a 4X increase compared to last year’s challenge. Oddly enough, this year there was only one-fourth the number of challengers. I’ll attribute this to the link from Consumerist I got last year and it’s resulting 1500+ pageviews. This year, I got a link from MSN Money, but a much smaller bump in traffic. But both links are the result of J$ from Budgets Are Sexy, so he is awesome.
The 2013 $3K Challengers
Out of four bloggers, we seem to have 2 lifestyle bloggers, and two PF bloggers. On PF blogger is about frugality and the other investing. Seriously, I couldn’t have planned it falling out this evenly if I tried. To the four of you, I would invite you to join the Yakezie Challenge. It helped me immensely in figuring out what I was doing and helping me grow.
For each challenger, I will present their name, site, bio, and plan for making money
Searching for Happy
I’m come from a background of writing. I’ve written a number of blogs professionally, and tried to run a few personal ones, but I hadn’t kept them going. This is the longest running blog I’ve ever had.
Aside from that, I’m just a guy looking to be happy – like anyone else.
Monetization Plans: I plan to make most if not all of the money from content writing for other sites. I also have adsense enabled on the site, and I plan to begin selling affiliate products (and hopefully one of my own) by the end of the year.
Live Well on Less
I’m an office worker who’s fed up with working for someone else. I’ve been in this office for nearly 7 years, and seen my boss go from driving a BMW to a McLaren, largely as a result of my online promotion of his company. I think it’s time to work for myself now, and although I don’t hold out much hope for earning more than beer money off my blogs, it’s a start, and it’s very fulfilling.
I’m not really concerned about winning this, but more to see if I can actually do it, which would be reward enough TBH.
Monetization Plans: Currently, I’m an Amazon affiliate, and also a member of various other online ad affiliate networks. I also plan to write and sell articles to other publishers.
Stocks and Cents
I’m a mid twenties financial professional who has taken up the task of trying to get my net worth positive. I am also hoping to eventually gain some measure of financial independence so I can quit working in the corporate world and go back to coaching Track and Field.
Monetization Plans: At this point I am using solely Adsense, although I plan on adding some affiliate programs before the year is out.
The Wet and Cold NorthWest Gardener
A gardener of the Pacific Northwest I enjoy watching things grow especially if they are green. 🙂 I have been gardening for about 5 years and have discovered that there are many challenges to overcome in the northwest. The major one being a weather system that is “cold” and raining most of the time with only about 2 months of summer. I created my blog because enjoy sharing tidbits of information that I learn along the way.
Monetization Plans: Through Google AdSense and affiliate advertising links.
