Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and I am getting the best present of all, a closing on my house! Meanwhile, we are about 75% unpacked in the new place. I think I’ll take a break today because my legs are seriously Jell-O right now from carrying boxes down steps to the area we are setting up the home office.
The kitchen is going to take some getting used to with its side-by-side refrigerator, electric stove, and less cabinet and counter space. But over-all, I think I’m going to like this place better.
Meanwhile, Valentine’s Day is just 11 days away. Between everything going on right now and the fact that without a job, days just melt together, I would have completely missed it by if it weren’t for the reminder email about the Snowflake Giveaway below.
It’s become a bit of a tradition for us for me to make Chicken Marsala for dinner on Valentine’s Day. In the past, we’ve also seen a matinée if there was anything good playing, but this year our day will be taken up with the showing. Fortunately, we have a ton of romantic comedies to watch at home.
That’s how we celebrate. Valentine’s is all about having the right gift. If your relationship doesn’t require expensive gifts, then it doesn’t make sense to go out and buy gifts just because the commercials on TV are telling you to do so.
Tip #1 for Saving on Valentine’s Day: Don’t Spend
Personally, I’m not one to go out and buy chocolates and flowers and cards and all that stuff. I prefer to stay in and express myself with acts of love, like cooking my wife’s favorite dinner. Much more frugal and easier on the nerves than sitting at a crowded restaurant.
Tip #2 for Saving on Valentine’s Day: Shop Smart
But if you find that you absolutely have to buy your loved one gifts for Valentine’s Day, shop smart. Since the price of everything Valentine’s related goes up as you approach the day, be on the lookout for coupons. There are dozens of coupon sites to help you out. The sponsor of this giveaway, CouponFollow.com is one of them. I’ve been looking around their site and they seem to be better organized than the leader of this niche, RetailMeNot.
For offline purchases, check your newspapers, plus printable coupon sites like RedPlum, SmartSource, and Coupons.com Your local grocery store will have chocolates on sale at the very least!
